Women’s sex hormones are dynamic
During reproductive years, no two days in a row are exactly the same hormonally
Menarche is the first menses of a woman’s life, the start of her reproductive years. Irregular periods and anemia are common among females who have recently achieved puberty. A common conventional treatment is to start birth control early, even when there are no concerns of unwanted pregnancy. Birth of a first child will often normalize these early hormone patterns.
There are estrogen mimicking, endocrine disrupting chemicals in our environment and food supply affecting all of us, but women even more [1],[2].
Signs and Symptoms of Sex Hormone Imbalance
Signs and symptoms of estrogen dominance and insufficient progesterone can occur during any point of reproductive age. Resulting poor quality sleep, insomnia, ill at ease, aches and pains affect quality of life. Inadequate progesterone production can impair the ability to maintain a pregnancy to full term.
Peri-menopause is the beginning of the end of reproductive years for women. The ovaries which have been making adequate sex hormones on pattern, can sputter. Inability to concentrate, fatigue along with aches and pains can develop along with the classic symptoms of moodiness and hot flashes. If there are life stressors at the same time, these problems can be greatly compounded in severity by adrenal maladaptation.
Menopause can be both a relief and the end of many good things as estrogen levels crash from the reproductive year levels. Healthy, stress resilient women can sail right through, while others have a great deal of difficulty adapting to these hormonal changes. In addition to loss of well being, menopause is the most significant time of bone loss in the aging woman. Heart disease risk also becomes elevated at menopause.
Human, Not Horse Hormones to the Rescue
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can be a god-send to suffering women at menopause. Quality of life restored, long term health problems due to sudden loss of estrogen, delayed.
HRT based on equine (horse) hormones has been shown to have a number of increased health risks. Similar studies for human identical (bioidentical) hormones have not been conducted, and likely won’t since there is no patentable “novelty” in giving humans, human identical hormones. (Giving humans horse hormones is novel, patentable, and the economic motivation…) BHRT, when initiated early into menopause or even perimenopause, and individualized to the woman, usually resolves all of the negative symptoms. This comfort is accomplished at blood measurable hormone levels consistent with the lowest hormone levels found during the reproductive years.
Women, their partners, and their families are often quite pleased with the wellbeing and happiness BHRT can produce.
